About REIKI
The word REIKI (pronounced Ray-Kee)is defined as "spiritually guided energy" or "universal life force energy" and is derived from two Japanese words: "Rei" which means "Spiritual Wisdom" or the "Higher Power" and "Ki" which means "life force energy".
REIKI is an ancient healing art that originated on this planet in the Far East around the time of Buddha. The formula for the REIKI system was discovered deep within the text of the sacred Sanscrit Sutras by a Japanese man named Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800's.
Dr. Usui then further developed the technique and became a pilgrim who carried REIKI all through Japan. Eventually he met the man who would be his successor, Chujiro Hayashi. Hayashi received his REIKI Master's training from Dr. Usui before passed away in 1930.
Hayashi then handed down the REIKI Master's training to a Japanese American woman name Hawayo Takata in 1938. Takata had already brought REIKI to the West from Japan in 1937 when she opened her first healing clinic in Kapaa Hawaii as a REIKI Level II. After receiving her Master's training, she opened her second REIKI clinic in 1939 in Hilo, Hawaii. There are now at least 500,000 REIKI practitioners worldwide.
REIKI is not a religion of any kind. REIKI is a Kundalini technique and because it works with the life force energy the healing does not come from the healer themselves, but rather through them. The REIKI practitioner is the channel through which the universal life force energy is guided.
Everything is energetic in nature including human beings. All humans have this life force (Ki, Ch'i, Prana) flowing through them and it is this life force that flows outward from us (forming the aura) and also through us by way of the chakras, meridians and nadis.
This life force can become diminished or blocked by a variety of conditions such as emotional upsets, relationship problems, low self-esteem, suppressed anger, etc. When the life force is low and continually constricted, this can manifest into serious physical illnesses.
REIKI heals a person's contracted and restricted energy flow by raising the vibratory rate of the energy field, which then breaks up and releases the blockages, allowing the energy to flow freely. All of our energy bodies need to circulate well in order to be in an optimum state of health.
A REIKI healing should be considered to be a three way agreement, between the person receiving the energy, the practitioner, and the Universal force. While REIKI is not dependent on a person's belief system to be effective, I do ask for the receiver's consent to receive REIKI and help them to understand that the real responsibility behind the success of the treatment lies with them.
Another important concept to understand about the REIKI system is that because REIKI is spiritually guided energy, it can never do harm. REIKI energy always goes exactly to where it is needed by the receiver, and since it is a natural healing method, it is safe for anyone and can be used in conjunction with allopathic medicine or other therapeutic techniques, as it will aid in promoting a fast recovery, in a gentle and positive way.
What you can expect from your treatment
Whether you are seeking deep relaxation, accelerated spiritual growth or any type of healing, a REIKI treatment can be of great value to you. REIKI practitioners view good health as more than being dis-ease free. We believe that good health is a holistic way of life in which the spiritual, mental, physical, emotional and energetic bodies must be harmonized and in balance.
Your visit will begin by filling out a brief client record form. (Rest assured that any information you give me is
always held in the strictest of confidence, and will never be shared with any other person(s) or outside organization.)
We will then discuss if there is anything specific that you wish to work on. Although
I do not diagnose, treat or heal any disease, and REIKI works on your whole being, it is beneficial for me to be aware of your needs and expectations before the treatment begins.
If you are new to alternative healing, I will briefly explain to you what REIKI is, how it works, its benefits -- and possible responses during and after the treatment, and answer any questions you may have.
I will then ask you to lie on your back on the treatment table. You will remain fully clothed. You may wear socks if you like, but I prefer you leave your shoes off. You will want to be in comfortable clothing that is non-restrictive and avoid wearing any jewelry or belt.
A pillow will be placed under your head and knees and you may have a flannel sheet placed over you if you feel the need to balance out your body's temperature. Your comfort is always my primary concern.
I will then ask you to close your eyes, relax, and to breathe slowly and deeply. I will also ask you to reflect on your intent, because the way you view your health and healing will directly inform how effectively you heal.
Intent is all-powerful, and by setting your thoughts to allow self-healing to happen, you will empower your own unique process. A good intent to invoke before any healing session is "May the Universe grant me exactly what I need in this moment for my highest and and best good."
My role as practitioner is to create the space for your healing to take place and to help support your process, while being a clear channel for the REIKI energy to flow through me to exactly where it needs to go within you.
In essence, all healing is done by simply creating a vibration that suggests to the person to be healed, what frequency they need to match within themselves in order to create the experience of healing they are seeking.
REIKI is practiced by gentle touch; the "laying on of hands" on various parts of the body. **Note**(The hands do not physically touch the private parts of the body, but are held instead over the sensitive points.)
A REIKI practitioner can sense intuitively and/or physically exactly where to place their hands, along with the length of time that the hands should remain in any one position.
Naturally, if you have identified a particularly stressed area (i.e. a hurt knee), then the hands will spend more time in that area. Ultimately however, it is always up to your own body how much of the energy you will draw in.
If you have elected to receive the
additional healing properties and benefits of the crystals along with the REIKI, you will feel the slight coolness and weight of the stones as they are placed on your body.
Crystals and stones can greatly assist in your REIKI treatment as they
significantly increase the amount of light present in one's aura, which then further enhances the flow and activation of your subtle energy bodies, thus promoting the ultimate in healing and clearing experiences.
In addition, because crystals contain, reflect, receive, and refract light (the highest form of energy we currently know) they can assist with an individual's active awakening process by teaching and showing us how to align ourselves with that essence which comprises and creates the entire universe.
A REIKI/crystal healing treatment is as unique and individual as the person receiving it. You may experience all, some of, or none of the following: flashes of color behind your eyelids, shaking, trembling, foreign smells, tastes and sounds or past life impressions. As mentioned before, a person's experience will be as unique as they are, and whatever you experience during your treatment is what is
exactly right for you.
After your session is completed, you will want to be sure to drink plenty of pure water, and you may feel like sleeping. Also, since the REIKI energy has stimulated your inner healing, a clearing process may be initiated. Clearing is a natural and positive experience, as it is helping to re-balance your body, and all of its corresponding energy centers.
Clearings may happen during the treatment itself, but will often happen after you are home. The responses can be varied, ranging from flu-like symptoms to vivid dreams to charged emotions, and their duration time may vary depending on how much conscious support you give to the clearing process. Just remember that this is
your body's own natural healing in motion and there is no outside force at work. It is just you and you are always in control.
**Please note** Some clients become
so enthusiastic about the positive changes they experience in their lives after a series of REIKI treatments, that they push too hard (somewhat like overworking muscles in a gym session.) It
is possible to do too much energy work too quickly.
Have respect and compassion for yourself by always listening to your body, and seek out additional types of health care whenever you feel that it would be beneficial for your self development.
